Prior to Kate’s appointment as CEO, she was Ausfilm’s Los Angeles based Executive Vice President of International Production and Film Victoria’s General Manager, Incentives, Locations and Production Services.

Kate is a passionate leader and supporter of the Australian screen industry and was President of the Board of Australians in Film (AiF) from 2016 to 2020 in Los Angeles. Erin leads the Ausfilm Los Angeles team, with a focus on attracting international productions to Australia, marketing Australia’s production tax incentives and promoting Ausfilm members and the country as a screen destination.

Erin has wide-ranging expertise across screen production in both the United States and Australia. She previously spearheaded development at two Australian state government screen agencies, Film Victoria in Melbourne and Screenwest in Perth. Prior to her work in Australia, Erin served as SVP of Production at Participant Media and Spyglass Entertainment.

Erin is a graduate of Colgate University in New York and is originally from Boston.

Hyodoko is the artist name of Anthony Thanaxay, a Melbourne based 2D animator and illustrator. Under Hyodoko, Anthony shares his animation, illustration and character designs both professional and personal across his social media and portfolio. Anthony studied a Bachelor of Animation at Swinburne University of Technology and has worked on animated projects in Melbourne, including TANK, which won Best Animation at the London International Film Festival 2022, and Wonderfully Made, which screened at Cannes Short Film Festival 2022. He recently completed the CG Spectrum Game Changer Academy 2026, where he focused on improving his 2D hand-drawn, rigged, and hybrid animation skills. As an animator, Anthony is interested in character animation, 2D animation studio pipelines, and building a stronger career in the animation industry. Through Hyodoko, he hopes to connect with other artists, studios, and creative teams, while continuing to develop his own work in animation and illustration.

Stefan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and brings over 34 years of experience in the animation industry. His career began in the UK, where he directed high-profile campaigns for leading global brands such as Smirnoff Vodka, Vodafone, and Cadbury. Transitioning into children’s television, Stefan played a key role in developing and directing several successful series for ITV, including The Jellies (Seasons 1 and 2), narrated by the late Rik Mayall. After relocating to Australia, he continued to collaborate with major clients including Airbnb, Fairy Liquid, and McDonald’s. He went on to create and direct One, Two, Threebies for ABC, which earned a Bronze Award for Best Children’s Show at the Australian Effects and Animation Festival. In recent years, Stefan has directed multiple seasons of Ollie and Friends for Mediacorp and Best Furry Friends (two seasons) for Turner, among many other children’s programs. Today, Bill is the founder and director of Half Giant, a studio specialising in animated trailers and cinematics for the video games industry. Rob Coleman is an Academy, BAFTA, and VES Award-nominated Animation Supervisor who is also currently serving as the Creative Director for Industrial Light & Magic’s Sydney studio. Coleman’s career started when he joined the ILM team of animators in 1993 for groundbreaking work on The Mask. He worked directly with George Lucas on all three Star Wars prequel films, and later with Dave Filoni on The Clone Wars at Lucasfilm Animation. He returned to ILM after serving as Head of Animation at Animal Logic in Sydney, contributing to projects such as The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and two Peter Rabbit films. Sean M. Murphy is a feature animation producer with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Recently, he served as associate producer on the Netflix animated feature film Ultraman: Rising directed by Shannon Tindle and co-directed by John Aoshima. Sean joined ILM in 2021 to oversee production on the film alongside VFX Supervisor, Hayden Jones. He is currently working in the same capacity on Warner Brothers Pictures Animation’s The Lunar Chronicles. Prior to joining Industrial Light & Magic, Sean was an employee of Blue Sky Studios in Greenwich, Connecticut for 17 years. While at Blue Sky, he worked in various production roles on shorts and feature films including Horton Hears a Who!, the Ice Age sequels and the Oscar-nominated projects Rio & No Time For Nuts. He was given the role of production manager for the hit film Rio 2 & the Oscar-nominated Ferdinand - both directed by Carlos Saldanha. Sean was also the Associate Producer on their critically-acclaimed final film, Nimona, before it was moved to Annapurna Animation for completion. Nicole Delprado is a Sydney based Producer and Screenwriter. As the founder of production company Pike Salto, she’s on a mission to turn original genre and children’s IP into household names. Animator, illustrator and creator of visual things, Alyssa is a co-founder, Company Director, and Head of Visual Development and Brand at Pirate Size Productions. At Pirate Size, Alyssa leads design on many unique and exciting projects, including co-creating It’s Andrew!, a 3D animated preschool series co-commissioned by ABC and CBC; directing and stop-motion animating Pencil Pals for ABC Me; leading visual development on 2D animated preschool series Anna Antarctica. As well as collaborating on Pirate Size’s many other projects in various stages of development including live action, 2D, 3D and hybrid films and series. She is also currently illustrating a graphic novel trilogy, Alpen Haüs for Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing. Through her freelance work she has designed and animated for print and digital advertising, TV, award winning short films and even had a very small role in a very big Hollywood blockbuster. Amanda Spagnolo is an Emmy-nominated Writer and Producer. Currently working as a Development Producer for Princess Bento in Melbourne, she has been known mostly for her work in children’s entertainment and has most recently produced the first three seasons of ABC’s preschool hit Ginger and the Vegesaurs. She also wrote three episodes of Ginger Season 4 and 5 airing in 2026 on ABCKids. Before that, she produced Monster Beach for the Cartoon Network and Space Chickens in Space for Disey Jr and Channel 9. In Toronto, Amanda wrote and produced at Sinking Ship Entertainment where she obtained her first Emmy nomination for Creative Writing. In 2025, she joined Michael Cusack's mostly online studio, Cusack Creatures, to help build their live action slate and co-producing their first live-action short that will be on the festival circuit mid-2026. Sad Man Studio is an animation and creative studio based on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The studio was founded by Samuel Leighton-Dore (Writer, Producer) and Bradley Tennant (Production Designer, Producer).

Together they created animated coming-of-age sitcom Willy, which is in development with Ludo Studio (Bluey), and Penguin Random House, with a graphic novel being released in early 2027.

In 2025 they created and produced 2D animated children’s short film Seahorsies, about young seahorse siblings Shelley and Crash growing up in a two-home family on the Great Barrier Reef. The short screened at the Asian Animation Summit in Taiwan and is currently being adapted into a children’s book.

In 2026 they produced 5-episode animated sketch comedy series Finally, A Show About Men!, which was released on YouTube and alternative comedy streaming platform Grouse House. A second 10-episode season of the show will be released in 2027.

Morgan Flint

Morgan Flint is a Melbourne-based producer and co-founder of Studio Psycho. He specialises in independent animation production, scaling original IP from concept through to release in the online space. Morgan is currently producing Heathens, a dark fantasy action series that premiered on YouTube and rapidly built a global audience, amassing millions of views and a strong subscriber base. His work spans production strategy, crew coordination, pipeline development, and sustainable online growth. Prior to Studio Psycho, Morgan worked in VFX production, coordinating teams of artists across major film and television. His credits include How to Train Your Dragon (2026), Ted Season 2, and the upcoming film Street Fighter (2026).

Neda Lay

Neda Lay, knownonline as Nezhahah, is a Melbourne-based creator, director, and co-founder of Studio Psycho. Hailing from a skilled background in animation and storyboard, she now specialises in original animation development, writing and directing character-driven stories, with a strong visual identity. Neda is the creator and director of Heathens, a dark fantasy action series that premiered on YouTube and quickly built a global audience and dedicated fanbase. Their work defines the series’ creative vision, from story and worldbuilding through to tone and visual direction. Previously, Neda has worked for Flying Bark on Disney TVA’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and at Glitch Productions on The Amazing Digital Circus, The Gaslight District, and Knights of Guinevere.

Turbo Chook is a queer-lead production company founded by Jess Murray, Thomas Ward and Declan O’Byrne-Inglis focusing on heartfelt absurdist comedies. Named after the iconic Tasmanian native hen, Turbo Chook has a slate of animated and live-action projects, from music videos to animated series.

In 2021, Turbo Chook’s animated series, After All, was the winner of Screenworks’ “Discovering New Voices in Adult Animation” an initiative to support emerging talent from regional Australia. Series creator Jess Murray went on to develop the project with Melbourne-based animation studio, Princess Bento (Smiling Friends, Hazbin Hotel). In 2025 After All became Turbo Chook’s debut award winning animated series. After All stars Aussie comedians Luke McGregor and Zach Ruane (Aunty Donna) and has recently been picked up by Animation+ for distribution on their US streaming service.

Turbo Chook’s sophomore series Wine Mums is currently in post-production and set to be released in 2026. Wine Mums is a live-action absurdist episodic comedy series following wine mums Deb and Gladys on various misadventures: getting sucked into an 8-bit videogame, having sex with a kraken and almost getting killed by an AI airfryer.

Declan O’Byrne-Inglis

Declan O’Byrne-Inglis

Producer, Production Coordinator, Screenwriter, Voice Director

Declan is an emerging actor, writer and producer with a passion for telling stories about the strange lurking in the mundane, reflecting his experience as a queer neurodiverse person. In addition to writing, performing in and overseeing Turbo Chook’s slate of animated and live-action projects, Declan recently worked with the ABC as a producer, reporter and interviewer on the podcast Days Like These. Multi-tasking across multiple ABC Listen projects, Declan was also tasked with creating podcast pilot episodes for prospective ABC series according to briefs provided by various Executive Producers. With an eclectic range of skills and experience across animation, live-action, and audio, Declan aims to build a collaborative, creative multi-platform career as a writer, producer and performer. Declan has co-written and starred in all Turbo Chook projects so far, including animated series After All, and the company’s upcoming live-action series Wine Mums and Huck Grimples.

Jess Murray

Jess Murray

Co-Founder

Jess Murray is a non-binary filmmaker and illustrator with a focus on whacky characters and heartfelt comedies. Growing up on the outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, Jess found a love of oddball movies and has been determined to create their own off-kilter projects ever since. At the age of 19, Jess co-created the 2D animated short form comedy series Moments of Clarity, which was made by the Tassie animation studio, Blue Rocket and funded by Screen Australia and Screen Tasmania. After graduating from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) with a BA in Screen Production in 2020, Jess co-founded Turbo Chook. In addition to writing and directing on numerous Turbo Chook projects, Jess also designs the team’s animated projects and dabbles in producing, editing and voice acting. Jess created, produced, directed, co-wrote, and production designed on Turbo Chook’s debut animated series After All which released on YouTube in 2025 to a reception of almost a quarter of a million views over the 6x5min episode series. After All was winner of the “Best Animation” award at Sydney Webfest and has been recently picked up by Animation+ for distribution in the US.

The University of Newcastle’s Visual Communication Design program offers a dynamic, industry-engaged approach to contemporary visual storytelling, with a strong emphasis on animation, motion design, and emerging media practices. Located in Australia, the program integrates conceptual thinking with hands-on production, enabling students to develop both creative and technical expertise across a range of visual forms.

Students engage in collaborative, project-based learning that reflects real-world production environments, working across disciplines including film, animation, graphic design, and digital media. A particular strength of the program is its focus on stop-motion animation and model making, alongside hybrid workflows that combine traditional craft with digital technologies.

The program maintains close links with industry and international partners, providing students with opportunities to participate in global experiences such as study tours, festivals, and collaborative projects. These initiatives position students within professional networks and expose them to current industry practices.

Graduates emerge as adaptable, critically engaged practitioners, equipped to contribute to the evolving fields of animation and visual communication in both local and international contexts.

Dr Andrew Howells

Senior Lecturer

Andrew Howells is an animator, illustrator, artist and educator with 25 years' experience in industry and academia. As a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Australia, Andrew works across animation, illustration, and visual communication design. He holds a PhD in Design from the University of Newcastle, where his research explores drawing as inquiry at the intersection of art, science, and visual communication. Andrew has an extensive professional background working with museums and cultural institutions, producing interpretive visual materials that support public engagement with collections and research. With a professional background in the animation industry, he is currently teaching 2D animation and illustration courses within Visual Communication Design at the University of Newcastle, Australia

Jack McGrath

Jack McGrath

Lecturer

Jack McGrath is a filmmaker, stop-motion animator, director and lecturer with over 20 years’ experience producing visual content across animation, documentary and screen media. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Sydney and has lectured in film and animation for more than a decade. His short films have screened internationally, and he is the Director of Conceptavision, a Newcastle-based production company specialising in animation and video. Jack teaches animation within Visual Communication Design at the University of Newcastle, Australia, with a focus on stop-motion and model-making. He is also a practice-led researcher whose work examines the relationship between scale, materiality and perception through the lens of miniatures. His research explores how miniature environments operate both as physical objects and as cinematic worlds, with a particular focus on how scale shapes audience experience. Working at the intersection of traditional stop-motion and emerging digital technologies, he develops hybrid animation workflows that integrate handcrafted models with contemporary tools, positioning miniatures as both a creative method and a critical framework for understanding animation.
